Statement

My paintings are reflections on the passage of time, the process of painting, and the relationship between what is seen with the eye, processed by the brain, felt by the nervous system and created through the body. Each painting comes into being through a process of discovery, the history of which is partially visible and partially obscured through layered mark-making. At times I allow the natural flow of the paint and intuitive choices to determine the direction of the work; at other times I impose a set design or structure. This give and take is integral to the work. All the elements β€” form, line, color, surface β€” are in a constant state of alteration and flux until the painting is reduced to its essential and final state.
